Rainbow Excavations

This series of work sprang from a need for solidity in a time of upheaval and change during my move from New York City to Vancouver, BC. I left a place full of concrete and rough exteriors for one full of water, wood, and fresh, wet, air. Though the cut out forms seem to have some solidity and weight, the individual painted strata of each piece hints at fluidity beneath the surface, a moment of flux captured. Rainbows are temporal, moments of brightness, nothing to hang onto, but I wanted to interpret something fleeting as something solid and lasting. Acrylic and ink on yupo, varied sizes. 2018.
