This group of work is a response to forest fires of summer 2018 in BC and elsewhere. As a native east coaster, the fires were a new experience for me and left a haunting impression on me that lasted long after the smoke cleared. These paintings are an attempt to make sense of events that are simultaneously a natural process, a tragedy, and beautiful in their own way. Here I am seeking to create forms that have dimension, texture, and a sense of transformation and ongoing change even while static. All are ink, acrylic, and gouache on yupo, in two sizes, 26x40” and 12.5x19”. Shown in example frames.
